My name is Anna and I am 12 years old. I am very interested in ghosts and ghost stories. My mom doesn’t like me to think about or read ghost stories very much because she thinks it will give me bad dreams. But I like getting scared and then finding out I’m OK after all. This is about something that happened last fall. I was in the back seat of the car sleeping. It was late and we were coming home from my grandmother’s house in Taos. I think it was snowing outside. The snow started early last year, it was only October when it started. I woke up or at least I think I did, and there was a strange lady sitting next to me. She looked at me and smiled. But then when I was going to ask who she was she wasn’t there any more. I was not scared because she didn’t seem scary. She seemed nice. Just after that we passed a bunch of flashing lights by the road. My mom said don’t look, there’s a bad accident. I think the police were helping to get people out from the accident. But because of that I forgot to ask my mom or tell her about the lady sitting next to me until later. I remembered the next day and I asked my mom. She said I must have been dreaming, because it was only me and her in the car. I forgot about what happened until last week. But then I found this book called More Spooky Ghost stories of the Southwest. It talks about a ghost called Sandee Saunders, the same one that this web site is about. I read more about her here, and also on other places on line. I think that the lady I saw was Sandee Saunders. We were on I-25 and it was night. I think that she was telling us not to have an accident like the other people in the other car, and she is a good ghost. Some of the stories people have told are a lot scaryer than what I saw. But I am not scared, well maybe a little bit now, but I wish I could see this ghost again and ask it questions. I wonder if it’s happy or not. Maybe it misses her daughter which is why it wanted to protect me and my mom. Well anyway that’s my story. Thanks for listening!
IM A SMALL TRUCK DRIVER, I DRIVE HAY AND ALFALFA MOSTLY BUT SOMETIMES I HELP DRIVE OTHER CROPS TOO WHEN THE HARVEST IS DUE. I GO BY THE PLACE WHERE THEY SAY ITS HAUNED BY SANDY SONDERS A LOT, CUZ THATS WHERE MY MAIN ROUTE GOES PAST. BUT I USUALY GO BY THERE IN THE DAY. BUT ONE TIME I HAD A FLAT AND HAD TO GET IT FIXED. IT TOOK A REAL LONG TIME AND BY THE TIME IT WAS FIXED I WAS PAST DARK OUT SIDE. IT WAS KINDA CLOUDY AND REAL DARK, NOT THE USUAL AMOUNT OF STARS AND MOON YOU WOULD USUALY SEE AT NIGHT. I WAS GOING FASTER THAN USUAL CUZ I WAS LATE DELIVERING MY LOAD CUZ OF THE FLAT. I SAW A PERSON WALKING ON THE SHOLDER OF THE ROAD, IT WAS WAY OUT IN NOWERE AND YOU WOULDNT USUALY SEE SOMONE THERE. SO I SLOWED DOWN MY TRUCK TO SEE IF SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND THEY NEED HELP OR NOT. AND AS I SLOWED DOWN THE PERSON IT LOOKED LIKE A WOMAN START TO TURN AROUND. BUT THEN BANG SHE SUDDENLY WAS GONE LIKE SHE WASNT EVEN THERE TO BEGIN WITH. I WAS SUPRISED AND THOUGHT MAYBE I IMAGINED IT. BUT THEN SEE FOOT PRINTS ON THE DIRT WHERE THE PERSON WAS. TO THIS DAY I BELEIVE WHAT I SAW WAS THE GHOST OF SANDY SONDER AND THAT SHE WAS TELLING ME TO SLOW DOWN OR I WILL CRASH. I BELEIVE SHE IS A BENEVALENT SPIRIT THAT HELPS PEOPLE WHEN THERE IN TROUBLE AND THATS WHAT SHE WAS DOING WHEN SHE SHOWED HERSELF TO ME. CUZ WHEN I GOT ROUND THE NEXT BEND I SAW THERE WAS A BIG PILE OF DIRT IN THE ROAD LIKE FROM A DUMP TRUCK. IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE MADE ME LOOSE CONTROL IF ID BEEN GOING AS FAST. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS SANDY YOU ARE MY GAURDIAN ANGEL. JOHN H.
Okay, I REALLY don’t believe in this kind of s**t usually, I’ll say that first. Cause if someone told me what I’m about to tell you, I’d say you’re so full of s**t, it’s coming out of your nose and ears. But I SWEAR this really did happen to me. It was really really late at night, and I was driving from Austin where I was working to visit my girl in Albuquerque, we were going to go skiing that weekend and so I drove basically straight thru. I got off work early on Friday and just got in the car and went, thinking I’d get to ABQ in the morning, take a nap and then we’d hit the slopes in the afternoon. So I was around where that big reservoir dam thing is, south of T or C in NM, and it was so late at night it was actually early in the morning, if you know how that works. I was jacked up on coffee and Pepsi and listening to the radio, first KVET out of Austin and then KLAQ in El Paso for a change of pace and then finally KRST when I got farther up toward Albuquerque. So anyways, I’m going along and this old kind of corny song comes on the radio, this chick singing about sunshine and birds and s**t. And I’m about to change the channel but first I happen to look in the rearview and almost s**t myself, there’s a FACE IN THE BACKSEAT! It’s kind of pale and blurry but I can see it’s like a woman’s face who’s sitting back there. I almost lose control of the vehicle, and my heart is pounding, I manage to pull over and just sit there for a minute, I’m actually afraid to look back in the back of the car. So finally I do, but of course there’s nothing there. This song is still playing on the radio though and I go to click it off or change the channel or something. But I CAN’T TURN THE RADIO OFF! I click the control button again and finally it goes off. My hands are shaking, I’m shaking all over and I’m all sweaty now, it’s really pretty creepy s**t. So like I said I’m pretty feaked out, this is not the kind of thing I usually would believe would happen, and I think to myself that maybe I’m just really tired and all the caffine is making my head do strange things. I get the car going again and get to my girls’ place in Albuquerque and unload my stuff and get in bed. I’m really tired out by this point but it’s good to see her, if you know what I mean! So later that day, we’re hanging out and I tell her, oh this weirdass thing happened that totaly freaked me out on the drive up. So I’m telling her what happened, and her eyes get bigger and bigger, and then she tells me about this old ghost story that’s supposed to be this singer who died on that stretch of road, it’s acutally really famous she says, and YOU SAW THAT GHOST!!! So I’m all, no way, I don’t believe that stuff, and she’s like yes way, and she turns on the computer and shows me all this s**t about this Sandie Saunders lady who died right around where I had the experience I just talked about. Then my girlfriend says, and that song you heard was BY HER, it was HER FAMOUS SONG!!! Now that was pretty spooky and just hearing that, I got chills again. Well anyway, that was like five years ago but I still think of it sometimes. I wouldn’t tell anyone like my friends, or the people I work with, because they’d laugh in my face and never let me hear the end of it. And since I broke up with that girl there’s nobody else who knows about what happened htat night. I’ve read some other people writing on this web site their experiences that sound kind of stupid and not like what I saw at all, my encounter was way more scary than alot of what these other people have described. So I had to put in my two cents about it, even though like I said I think ghosts are a crock of s**t in general, I do think I probably saw whatever spirit remains of Sandie Saunders on that night.
I’ve never written any of this down before, so here goes. It all started when I took my wife to hear Rockfinger play at the Camel Rock casino just north of Santa Fe. We were both big Rockfinger fans back in high school (okay, I’m showing my age here…) so when we heard they were coming through NM, we decided to drive up from ABQ. And I got to tell you, they ROCKED! Some people say it’s not the real Rockfinger without Tommy Lamb, but they had Snickers Keith from Leather Tiger filling in, and I must say, he did a helluva job filling in Tommy’s big guitar shoes. If they come through your part of the world, trust me, go see them. So anyway, we were pretty buzzed after the show, talking about how great it was while we were driving home and playing Alright Tonight over and over really loud, even though we’d just heard all those great songs. (I guess me and Cindy still have a little of the high school rock-n-roller in us, even though one of our kids just GRADUATED college, and the other’s going back in the fall. Hard to believe!) Anyway, when we got near Bernalillo, I got the idea to pull off the highway and park somewhere like we used to do back then. I didn’t say anything when I turned off the road, but Cindy knew exactly what I was thinking, and I didn’t hear her complaining any! I turned into Coronado State Park — it was the off-season, so there was no ranger at the guard booth and we just drove right in and parked in one of the spots. And then started doing what’s none of your business! By the time “Party Wagon” came on, we were really getting into it, and it was easy to imagine we were back in my old Ford Torino instead of our Subaru! But then the music stopped, which happens sometimes, cause I think the speaker wires are loose. (I’ve been meaning to take a look at that.) Usually you can fix it by sort of shaking the car, which is sort of what we were doing anyway. But then the music came on again, and it wasn’t Rockfinger! It was “Mornin’ Kinda Feeling” by Sandee Saunders — and I don’t even HAVE that CD! This is weird, I thought. But Cindy said it’s okay, I like this song anyway. But then the song started playing slower and slower, and sounding sort of like the girl in the Exorcist. Then it was playing backwards like some Ozzie Ozborne thing. By this point I’d sort of lost my groove, if you know what I mean, and we were just sitting there staring at each other and getting really freaked out. I reached to turn off the CD player, but even before I touched the button I was scared that the music was going to keep playing anyway, like it does in scary movies. But the music did stop, thank god. It was really quiet for a second, and then I heard this sort of high whistling sound, like a sausage makes when you nuke it for too long in the microwave, and it was getting LOUDER and LOUDER. Then I heard something BRUSH against the roof of the Subaru. Once. Then twice. Let’s get out of here, Cindy said, and I didn’t argue! I started the car (again, I was thinking it wouldn’t start like in the movies, but it started right up) and peeled out of there. But I got sort of turned around, and was actually driving AWAY from the guard booth and the exit. And then the whistling started again. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw two red police car lights, and figured the whistle was some new sort of siren, cause they’re always out looking for drunk drivers in NM — that’s a real problem here. I started slowing down, and I didn’t care if we got a ticket even, because I was VERY freaked out at that point. But then Cindy screamed DON’T SLOW DOWN! DON’T SLOW DOWN! And I said it’s the police, and she said NO IT’S NOT! And she was right — the red lights were coming up behind us real fast, and now I saw that they were TWO RED EYES, just flying through the air, and I could see the outline of a head around them. Just a head — no body at all, just flying at us at maybe 40 miles an hour. We were both screaming and pretty much completely freaking out, our happy memories of a great concert seeming suddenly like so much ancient history. But just then we saw the guard booth and the exit, and we drove out of there as fast as we could, and headed back toward the Interstate. We stopped at the stop sign, and there was no whistling and no head behind us — but right then it dropped down IN FRONT OF THE CAR. There was this floating lady head with red eyes and rotten skin and big teeth just hanging in the air, looking at us through the windshield. I lost it then! I FLOORED it. I don’t think I hit the head — I think it zoomed out of the way real fast. We got onto the Interstate going about 100 MPH, and didn’t slow down till we were back in Albuquerque. We decided not to tell this story to anyone, because I don’t want to lose any of my clients or get looked at funny every time we go to church or the supermarket. But I’m posting this story here ANONIMOUSLY, so please don’t include my email address (firstname.lastname@example.org). I just want people out there to know that if they have a close encounter with Sandee Saunders out there on I-25, that some people know they’re not crazy!
This story is about what happen when me and some of my girl friends from school (I was at NMSU in Las Cruces NM, a busness major at the time), Marilee and Jaime andme, got dared by some of the boys that live across the courtyard from us, they were always daring everbody to do things they probably shouldn’t. This woud have been in May sometime of two years ago. So this time, these boys decided to pick on us and told us I bet you have never seen or heard about Sandee Sanders ghost. And my frined Marilee said, of course w’eve heard about her, my grandma says she went to high school with her back in the 50s. So then the main guy Jerry says I bet you’d be scared of her if you saw her head, and Marilee says no, cause I’m a Christian and I don’t believe in those kind of things. So they want back and forth for a while about that and the next thing I know we’re all pilling in to the car and driving up the highway. I was maybe a little nervos cause I knew some of the guys had been drinking beer earlier and I worried that they probly shouldnt be driving, and don’t like to be in the car with them that way. But it was too late by then, we were going up the highway already so I just tighten my seat belt and hope for the best. So after like an hour, or maybe a little less than that we get to the place where sandee was supposed to gone off the road, its where the highway crosses right over the river and theres a little bridge over it. And it was not real late, more like around 10:30 at night by then. But we didn’t see anything scarey when we went over the river. So then Jerry who was driving stopped the car and was going to turn around, he and Paul were making cracks about how ghosts never do what there suppose to do. And then they dedice to instead turn off the engine and sit there for a while trying to scare us, I guess or maybe they were just trying to impress Marilee cause guys were alway trying to hit on her and stuff. And then Jaime kind of sqeaked and said whats that sound. And everybody shut up but we didn’t hear anything. But she was all freaked out and swears she heard something, she wasn’t sure what but it sounded kind of like a crying sound. Jerry said oh its probly just a coyote or something and we decide to turn around and go home. But the car wouldn’t start! Then we all kind of start getting really spooked out and panicing. Marilee thought she saw somthing moving outside of the car and we got even more scared. I just start praying to God that the car would start and we would be okay. And finally Jerry gets the car to start and we pealed out of there like at 90 miles an hour! We dindt stop til we got all the way back to Las Cruces, infact we sped up even more when we went by Hatch cause that’s where she was from.
And I will never drive back up there to that part of the highway at nighttime never ever again, nomatter whether what we though we saw was real or not!
